We are now in the third year of living with Covid in our everyday lives. The pandemic first broke out in Washington on Jan. 21, 2020, and ever since then, things haven't been the same. Cities, States, Countries and the World have been and are still being massively affected by this pandemic. King County was the most affected county in all of Washington with over 175,000 people infected. This virus has taken many lives, affected jobs and changed our day-to-day life. I wanted to get some students' and teachers' perspectives on the effects of the Coronavirus, so I interviewed two students and two staff members from our school.
My first question was “How do you think Covid has changed things in your day-to-day life?”. Some of the answers I received are as follows.
“Covid has had a profound effect on how we live our day-to-day life. Fear is high, sickness happens, humanity, in general, has changed as distrust of fellow human beings seems to be at an all-time high. There doesn't seem to be any uniting factors as there have been in other crisis times throughout history.”
" As a senior in high school, I will look back at pictures of my senior year and be reminded that I had to cover my face every day because of a virus I was vaccinated against and have very low risk from in the first place.”
then asked the second question “Do you think the Covid Vaccine is an effective solution?” Here are some of the replies I received.
“I think the data shows it is, plus I heard that there is a new pill that is supposed to be 88%-90% effective”
“The vaccine puts some people's minds at ease, and I say, good on them, they should follow the direction their conscience leads them. I guess it has had an effect, but not fully the effect that was claimed and continues to be claimed throughout the continued mandates and the threats of hard lining even further mandates. The vaccines are not true vaccines as we have known them to be in the past. They do not fully protect an individual from the virus as immunizations have in the past so in a sense, I feel it is a false sense of security.”
I then asked my final question; “How do you think the Covid vaccine has positively affected the country?”
“The vaccine itself has been very good. It has taken hospitalization and death numbers down significantly, ``If you are vaccinated, you are as safe as you are going to get.”
“For those who believe in it, it has given peace of mind and that is good for a lot.”
“It's been a double-edged sword in a way. Yes, I believe it has been effective in helping with the virus, but it has also had its downsides. People in America now seem to be very divided”
It was good to get perspective on how students and staff view the pandemic and how everyone has a different take on the current situation of our world.
