Valentine's Day is a fun holiday that is usually used to celebrate couples and their stories. For Mrs. Russell that was back in high school. Mrs. Russell had a crush on a guy named Josh. He was a college freshman at Union. Josh asked Katie to say hi to his friend Trent at a music festival her school was hosting. So, she did, and they became friends. On her first day at college the next year, Josh took her up to the romantic clock tower in the middle of Union’s campus and… broke up with her. Though Katie was really hurt, she and Trent were still friends, who hung out a lot. When Trent’s parents needed help moving down to Florida, he invited Katie to go with him and help them move. They went down to help his parents pack and prepare for their move, but they ended up having a great time hanging out together. As a reward for their hard work, they went to Worlds of Fun, a local amusement park, together. One of the rides they went on while they were there was called the “Slingshot”, which is one of the scariest rides in the whole park; it lifts you up and then drops from 189 ft in the air. Then they pulled the cord to drop them, Trent reached out and grabbed Katie’s hand. Katie said, “and he didn’t let go, for the rest of that day we were holding hands.
A couple of months later they started dating, and they have been together ever since. Mr. and Mrs. Russell have been married for 15 years now. It is funny how God chooses to place people in our lives. speaking of God placing people, have you ever heard of two people getting together over their names? Well, that is exactly what happened to Auburn's science teacher, Grace Gratias.
When Grace was still in college at Walla Walla University, she was in a science class with a man named Gregory Gratias. She was with her friend when she saw him and his name. She looked over to her friend and said “Wouldn't it be funny if I married him, because of our names?” The next time they were in class some of Grace’s friends saw Gregory again. So they went over and told him he should ask Grace to marry him because of their names as a joke.
He happened to think this was hilarious and agreed, so the first time Grace and Gregory met he walked over to her, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. They both knew he was joking and they had a good laugh, but about a year later he asked her to marry him for real and that time she said yes. They have been happily married for 40 years. You never know who God has lined up for you, it could be someone you never expected.
