The year is almost done! This means that the seniors are about to go their own separate ways. There are many seniors who are involved in music. There are some that play instruments, some that sing. To showcase some seniors, I decided to ask them some questions about how they feel about playing instruments and more. I also asked the Band and Orchestra teacher, Mr. Russell, some questions about the seniors.
Are you in Band or Orchestra and what instrument/s do you play?
Brayan’s response
I am in the Wind Ensemble, and I play the Euphonium.
Ellie’s response
I am in the orchestra and I play the violin.
Caleb’s response
I am in the Wind Ensemble, and I play the clarinet. I'm also in the orchestra and play the cello, as well as in the Jazz Band, where I play the alto sax.
How long have you been playing these instruments?
Brayan’s response
I have been playing it for seven years now
Ellie’s response
Uhhh, I think kindergarten.
Caleb’s response
I’ve played the clarinet for 6-7 years. And the cello also for 6-7 years
What things do you like about being in band/orchestra?
Brayan’s response
I enjoy playing in concerts and playing on long tours
Ellie’s response
I like the long tours and that Russell is chill.
Caleb’s response
Not gonna lie, I like the long tours too, but unfortunately we haven’t been able to do a long tour recently. As a collective, in band, orchestra and jazz band, its being around with my friends and being taught by Mr. Russell because he’s a great guy and the music we play.
What is your favorite memory that you have had in band/orchestra? Could have happened in a long tour or concert or in class.
Brayan’s response
One of the buses blew a tire on my first long tour, so we had to wait a bit on the road. And everyone was just having fun while we waited for the tire to be fixed.
Ellie’s response
I like both long tours, I like our Idaho trip, cause I feel like the freshmen class that year got really close. Singing coco in the back of the bus was really fun. And on our Sophomore trip to long tour, we almost burned our hotel room
Caleb’s response
My favorite moment is when we went to New York and Zion broke the hotel bed.
Mr. Russell is the Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band teacher. Unfortunately this year, he is losing so much talent this year, since there are so many seniors this year involved in music! About half of the band and two thirds of the jazz band are seniors! I also asked him about how he feels about five seniors, and he feels so good that he was able to teach these students. He is so proud of the entire class for the amount of talent this class has, not just musically, but in everything they do here at Auburn Adventist Academy. They are leaders! Mr. Russell knows that this senior class will do so many great things in the world.
