What You are Missing

By: Tyler Hensley

Missionary work has long been an important part of Seventh-Day Adventist evangelism. For decades people have been doing mission work around the world. From the cold frontiers of Alaska to the deep jungle forests of Guyana, missionaries have dedicated time to bring others to Jesus. Sometimes it’s a quite dangerous feat, but those who serve in the mission field come back with a better grasp of the reality of the imperfections in our world.

One of the most popular mission programs in the Adventist community is ADRA. They do mission work all around the world and even recruit young people to go out in the mission fields. The trips that young people take to the mission fields completely change their perspective and worldview. They see and learn things about the different cultures and beliefs of people around the world. They get to share their love for Jesus and show their passion for their faith with these people.

Missionary work used to only be done by adults, but people are coming to the realization that youth are amazing at connecting with people. Being a young missionary is one of the best opportunities one can have. They get to see other places, cultures, religions and share their beliefs while broadening their knowledge of the world around them. Kalissa Krause has had experience in the mission field and says that she has never felt closer to God than when she was on her mission trip. Kalissa said she plans on going on many other mission trips and would recommend that everyone go on at least one themselves. She stated that her favorite part was getting to the people and their culture, while also helping them with whatever they needed. She also stated that her least favorite part was actually having to leave when it was all over, which really shows how impactful just one mission trip can really be.
