Recently a new thing has happened in China in the education area. A few provinces are announcing that schools should not give any homework that parents need to correct or grade. For you to best understand this news you must know some of the background information about it.
In China, we have a different education system than we do here in the United States. All of our grades depend on the final test so it does not really matter how homework is done. Most Public schools have a lot of students, in middle school. In China, there are three grades and each grade has 8 classes with 40 students For each subject, the teacher needs to be in charge of at least three classes that contain 120 students. As teachers, they must get a lot of practice and give students homework to prepare for the final test. The problem is, that the teacher did not have enough time to correct all that homework, so some teachers will send the answers to the student’s parents and let them correct the student's homework. Some teachers will even send the answers directly to the student and let them correct it themselves. Parents complain about this, because they think that it is the teacher’s responsibility to correct homework, not the parents There has been an ongoing dispute about
There are already some provinces that publish documents that require teachers should not send homework that needs a parent or student to grade. But it is not executed well. Recently , most provinces such as Shanxi province publish documents that require all k-12 schools to not send homework that needs to be graded by parents or students. Someone who violates this requirement will not be eligible for promotion and increase of salary. The school’s principal will also need to be responsible for this violation which will cause punishment. The announcement also mentions grading homework is the teacher's responsibility; they should not push them to the parent.
