The Uncaused First Cause: It's all about CHRIST

The Great Pyramid of Giza, one of The Seven Wonders of the World, is an amazing feat of human engineering for it’s time. People have looked upon the pyramids with awe for ages. Yet never once has a credible person claimed, with any reason, that the pyramids built themselves. That would be ridiculous. All you have to do is take one look at them to know that hypothesis is nonsense. As to the hypothesis that aliens made them, that's for another time. In the same way, when I look at the 7-11 that was recently built near my house, I would never think in the future someone would look at the store and say, “that probably built itself.” Like the pyramids, they each have what is known as “irreducible complexity,” meaning something is far too complex to be an accident. With all this in mind, what could be more complex than our world? In spite of all of this, we still have the theory of evolution. As Christians, how should we respond to claims like that of evolution and the big bang?

My first response to the Big Bang Theory would be to say that I do believe in the big bang. I just know who banged it! We are called to defend our faith in GOD, not blind faith, but reasonable faith. The Apostle Peter himself said in 1 Peter 3:15 “Instead, you must worship CHRIST as LORD of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” I could go on all day about the “nothing created everything” dilemma, but I think John Lenox explained it best when he said “Nonsense remains nonsense, even when talked by world-famous scientists.” (GOD and Stephen Hawking: Whose Design Is It Anyway?)

The whole debate is really over whether there is a GOD out there. If there is a GOD out there, there is nothing more important than choosing HIM. Interestingly, the most common arguments against GOD’S existence are not intellectual, but moral and emotional. People don’t want Christianity to be true! Of course there are many things that point to a CREATOR, like the objective truth JESUS spoke of when HE said “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE.” Without GOD, morality is nothing more than an opinion. I know this can come off harsh, but the reason most atheists are atheists is to avoid moral accountability. Simply put, the evidence leads to an Uncaused First Cause, GOD. Once you compile all the evidence and look at it, both the evidence for the Bible and for the existence of GOD, leads to a clear resolution, The Bible is true! That is a beautiful thing, the Gospel message says this Supreme Almighty Being loves us and chose to sacrifice HIMSELF to save us!

This leads to something that has been on my heart lately, and I think this is very relevant in the world today. This may be a shocker, but The Bible is not about you and I! In culture today, there is a lot of self pride going on, which, don’t get me wrong, can be good to an extent. We should love ourselves, but, as Christians, we must remember Who we should really be proud of; not ourselves, but CHRIST.

Another name of CHRIST is MESSIAH, which means savior, and HE must have come to save us from something! We can’t save ourselves. I’ll say that again, we can’t save ourselves! We aren't perfect, if we were, then CHRIST would have no reason to come! This is why I see danger in the amount of self-empowerment in culture today. Our culture tells us that we are perfect and are not in need of The SAVIOR. This leads to certain situations where, like the prophet Isaiah said, people call good evil and evil good. But here’s the thing, this is good news! It takes the burden off of us. We don’t have to try to save ourselves! Of course we should strive to be the best we can be, and if we truly accept CHRIST, then that naturally follows, but what is far more important is accepting CHRIST’S sacrifice on that cross.

If I had to leave with one thing it would be the this: this Great Controversy is not about you and I, it’s about JESUS and what HE did on the cross, so we can stop feeling like we aren’t worth it and start realizing that we may not be morally perfect, but we were worth enough for GOD to die for, so we should strive to be like HIM!

“GOD’s signature is not just in the cell, it’s in all of creation. GOD is as necessary to the universe as a band is to music. Once the band stops playing, the music is over.”

-Frank Turek

“To continue in atheism, I would need to believe that nothing produces everything, non-life produces life, randomness produces fine-tuning, chaos produces information, unconsciousness produces consciousness, and non-reason produces reason. I simply don’t have that much faith.”

-Lee Strobel
