Some of us seniors have been in this school district for a long time. Some have transferred and joined the school later on. This year has been very interesting, to say the least. In this article, I had the opportunity to have different conversations with seniors that transferred here to Auburn as well as those who have been here for four years.
Starting with transferred students, I asked questions to Adriana Ayoqui, Charlynneth Dizon, Emily Ermshar, and Matthew Lumbuan-Gaol. These seniors got here at Auburn in different ways; some were planned and some were unplanned. For instance, both Charlynneth and Emily did not plan to attend AAA but they believed that God had another plan as He opened doors and gave them opportunities to move into the Auburn community. First impressions may differ depending on each transferred student. But I found it interesting how the responses I got were similar as Emily stated that, “Auburn was full of kind, outgoing, and accepting students along with the hard-working staff.”
As a transferred student myself, I always thought that if I had attended AAA starting as a freshman, it would have been more beneficial to me. It can benefit transferred students in many ways. One of them being that it would allow them to connect with fellow students early on. Substantiating this claim, Alan Jacob, a four-year student, said that “they would have the full experience to start from freshmen.” With the four-year seniors, in addition to Alan Jacob, I also interviewed Maya Nelson. These two students have been here since their freshmen year. For both Alan and Maya, they didn’t have a choice but to attend AAA. Being in the same school, in the same environment for four years may feel long and draining, but from two of these students’ perspectives, their experiences have been valuable as Maya expressed, “High school has its ups and downs, but overall, I have wonderful … memories that I’ll cherish forever.”
Pivotal, memorable, different, wow — these are the words they use to describe when asked about their experience in AAA. If there is one thing I have learned from having conversations with my fellow seniors regarding their different experiences, is that going to Auburn Adventist Academy has given us life lessons for the development and success for our future.
