Many people of all ages may ask this question. Love comes in many forms and in many different types of relationships. For today’s article, I will interview some different people asking them about what love means to them.
Let's first take a look at what different kinds of love there are. Many people when they first think of love, they think of romantic love. Many students have found themselves in relationships during their time here at Auburn. Romantic love is something you and a significant other have. You have a magnetic attraction to each other and grow more into the relationship with each other.
Another type of love is called platonic love. This love comes from love of friends and family. It’s like a brotherly or sisterly love. When friends have a connection they just kinda stick around throughout life. It’s similar to romantic love except you don’t attract each other the same way. You work well together because you have the same interests and likes.
But let's dig a little deeper than these two kinds of love. Another love that is very important for us is Philia Love, or self love. You will hear many people say that you have to love yourself first before you can love others. Sometimes this is true. It is important to love yourself as you are so you can show other people how to love themselves and love others.
The last type of love is Agape love. This love is very hard to find within humans. Agape love is selfless love. The reason it’s hard for people to love selflessly is because we tend to love wanting love in return. The only person that can show selfless love for us is God. God is the ultimate picture of Love no matter what kind it is. In 1 John 4:8 it says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
I wanted to get some different perspectives when it comes to love, so I interviewed four individuals and asked for some advice on how we can better understand and show these different types of love. Some of you may recognize these questions.
